Service Detail - James sailed from Hobart on 8 Aug 1916 on the Ballarat, disembark Plymouth on 30 Sep, stationed at Codford & Larkhill before proceeding overseas to France from Southhampton on 13 Nov 1916.

Private James Lockhart was killed in action at Passchendale, Flanders, on the 5th October 1917 aged 45. James is buried in the Tyne Cot War Cemetery near Passchendale, Lot 35, Row A, Grave 13.

Tyne Cot War Cemetery – The cemetery is on the actual site of the battlefield and a memorial to the more than 11,000 buried there stands on the site of Tyne Cot Blockhouse captured by the Australians on the 4th October 1917.
